Which platform is right for an online store: Shopify, WooCommerce or custom?

Shopify is the right call if you want to launch fast, with little technical upkeep and a standard catalog. WooCommerce fits if you already run WordPress, want control over hosting and want to skip a monthly platform plan. A custom store pays off with complex pricing rules, wholesale with customer-specific price lists or deep integration with your ERP. In all three cases, what drives sales is speed, the product page and abandoned-cart follow-up.

Opening an online store is easy; getting it to sell every week is another story. The stalled stores we find share the same problems: they take more than four seconds to load on mobile, the photos don't really show the product, the shipping cost appears only at the last step and nobody follows up with the customer who left a full cart. Each of those details costs sales you already paid for with ads. Before proposing a redesign, we check where the purchase breaks down using real data.

As an e-commerce development agency based in Torreón, Mexico, we build stores on Shopify and WooCommerce, and custom stores when the business calls for it: wholesale with customer-specific pricing, industrial catalogs with thousands of parts, subscriptions or configurable products. We connect card payments, installments, cash and bank transfer via Stripe or Mercado Pago, shipping labels, invoicing (including Mexico's CFDI e-invoice) and your point-of-sale inventory so you never sell what isn't in the warehouse.

The store is half the job. The other half is driving traffic and winning back those who didn't buy: digital marketing campaigns on Meta and Google with product catalogs, a properly configured Pixel and Conversions API, abandoned-cart emails and WhatsApp messages, and SEO for categories and product pages. Everything is tracked in GA4. We meet in person in Torreón, Gómez Palacio and Lerdo, and work remotely across Mexico, the US, Canada and Latin America.

01Who it's for

Sound familiar?

  • Brands that sell through Instagram and WhatsApp

You already have demand, but every sale is a manual chat, a bank transfer, a screenshot and a handwritten shipping label. You need customers to check out on their own.

  • Brick-and-mortar stores going national

Your local store does well and you want to reach customers in other cities or across the border with the same inventory and the same prices.

  • Distributors and wholesale

Customer-specific price lists, minimum orders, credit terms and a technical catalog with downloadable spec sheets for buyers who reorder every month.

  • Stores that exist but don't sell

You have traffic or ad spend, and conversion won't break 0.8%. We audit speed, product pages, checkout and follow-up to find where the sale is lost.

09FAQ

What people ask us

How much does an online store cost?
It depends on the platform, the number of products and variants, the design (adapted theme or original design), the inventory, shipping and invoicing integrations, and whether launch campaigns are included. A Shopify store with a small catalog costs far less than a custom wholesale store. After a 30-minute call where we review your catalog and operation, we give you a fixed price.
Shopify or WooCommerce?
Shopify is better if you want to launch fast and not worry about servers, updates or security. WooCommerce is better if you already have a WordPress site with content that ranks and want full control of your hosting with no monthly platform plan. Both support the major payment options, including Mercado Pago, cash payments and installments for Mexican shoppers. We recommend one based on your catalog and your team, not on what's easier for us to sell.
Can you connect the online store to my point of sale and inventory?
Yes. We sync stock across the online store, point of sale and warehouse so an item sold at the counter comes off the website and vice versa. If your system has an API, the connection is direct; if not, we use n8n to sync at intervals with a log of every movement, and we alert you when a product hits its minimum stock.
Can my store issue invoices automatically, including Mexican CFDI?
Yes. We add a portal where customers enter their order number and billing details and receive their invoice as PDF and XML; for Mexican customers that's a CFDI 4.0 e-invoice issued through your authorized provider. It can also be automated so the invoice goes out as soon as payment is confirmed, if the customer left billing details at checkout.
How long does it take to launch an online store?
A Shopify or WooCommerce store with up to 200 products usually takes 5 to 8 weeks. A custom store with wholesale, price lists or ERP integration takes 8 to 12 weeks. Timing depends heavily on having photos, descriptions and prices ready; if you don't, our content team can produce them.
Does Mercado Monkey also run the store's advertising?
Yes. Our digital marketing team runs Meta and Google campaigns with product catalogs, dynamic remarketing and Performance Max. Before spending, we set up the Pixel, Conversions API and GA4 to track real sales, and we use our ROAS calculator to set how much you can pay per sale without losing margin.
Do you work with online stores outside Torreón?
Yes. Our office is in Torreón, Mexico, where we meet local businesses in person, but most of the stores we run sell nationwide and several sell to the United States and Latin America. We work over video with shared progress tracking, and we set up domestic and international shipping, multiple currencies and bilingual stores when needed.
