Tell Google who you are in its own language
Structured data is a block of code, usually in JSON-LD format, that describes your business in a way machines understand without guessing: name, type, address, coordinates, opening hours, phone and official profiles. Google uses it for its knowledge panel and to connect your website with your Google Maps listing, and AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini use it to cite accurate details.
For a local business, Google requires at least name and address. It also recommends telephone, url, geo, openingHoursSpecification and priceRange. The type matters: using Dentist, Restaurant or AutoRepair instead of the generic LocalBusiness gives more context and unlocks specific properties, like the menu or cuisine for restaurants.
The sameAs property is the most underrated: it links your website to your Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Google Maps profiles, confirming they're all the same entity. That consistency, along with your name, address and phone matching everywhere (NAP), is one of the most important local SEO signals.
About FAQs: since 2023, Google only shows the FAQ rich result for authoritative government and health websites. Even so, FAQPage markup is still useful: it helps AI search engines find direct answers on your page. Include it only if the same questions and answers are visible on the page.
