Get ChatGPT and Google to recommend you when people ask about what you sell

More and more customers skip Google and ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Copilot instead, getting an answer that names two or three businesses. AI search optimization, or GEO, is the work of making your company one of those recommendations.

What is GEO, and how do you show up in ChatGPT?

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is optimizing your website and online presence so AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Overviews) cite and recommend you in their answers. To show up, AI crawlers must be able to read your site, and you need question-and-answer content with concrete facts, structured data (schema), the same business information everywhere and mentions in sources the AI considers trustworthy.

When someone asks ChatGPT “which insurance agency do you recommend in my city?” or asks Gemini “which dentist takes emergencies near me?”, the answer isn't a list of ten links: it's two or three names with an explanation. If your business isn't there, it doesn't exist for that person. Google also shows AI summaries (AI Overviews) above the results, and on informational searches fewer and fewer people scroll down to the blue links.

AI search optimization, or GEO, builds on classic SEO but adds specific work. We make sure your robots.txt lets AI crawlers in (OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Bingbot and Google's), publish an llms.txt file that summarizes your business for the models, add JSON-LD schema for local business, services, FAQs and reviews, and rewrite your key pages as questions with direct answers and concrete facts the AI can quote word for word.

Off your site, we work on entity consistency: the same name, address and phone number (NAP) on Google Business Profile, directories, social profiles and media, linked with sameAs in your schema so the AI understands they're all the same business. Then we go after citations in industry directories, local media, comparisons and forums the models learn from, and we track visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot in GA4. Start with our free SEO + GEO audit and create your file with the llms.txt generator.

01Who it's for

Sound familiar?

  • Local businesses that live on referrals

Clinics, law and accounting firms, schools, restaurants and home services whose customers ask “which one do you recommend?” before they call.

  • Companies that rank on Google but not in AI

Your SEO is solid, but when you ask ChatGPT or Perplexity about your category, your competitors or a directory show up instead of you.

  • B2B brands with long sales cycles

Industrial and corporate buyers who research vendors with AI before requesting a quote and arrive with a shortlist already made.

  • Businesses with inconsistent info online

You changed your address, phone or trade name, and AI mixes old and new details or confuses you with a similar business.

09FAQ

What people ask us

What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?
GEO is optimizing your website and online presence so AI search engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews mention and recommend your business in their answers. It combines technical access for AI crawlers, structured data, question-and-answer content, consistent information across the web and mentions in trusted sources.
How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?
ChatGPT recommends businesses it finds through its web search and in sources it considers trustworthy. To show up, allow OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot in your robots.txt, publish clear answers about what you do, where and for whom, keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere, and earn reviews and mentions in directories and media in your city and industry.
What is an llms.txt file, and do I need one?
llms.txt is a text file at the root of your site that summarizes, in Markdown, who you are, what you offer and which pages matter most, so language models can understand your business without reading the whole site. It's an open proposal, not an official standard, but it's simple to implement. You can create yours with our free llms.txt generator.
Does GEO replace traditional SEO?
No. AI search engines lean on web search indexes: AI Overviews use Google's index, and ChatGPT, Copilot and Perplexity query search engines when they answer. A slow, poorly indexed site with no authority is unlikely to be cited. GEO adds layers on top: quotable content, schema, AI bot access and entity consistency. That's why we work on both at the same time.
How do I know if customers are coming from ChatGPT or Perplexity?
In Google Analytics 4 we create a custom channel group that collects traffic from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com, copilot.microsoft.com and similar sources, and we tie it to form fills, calls and purchases. Every month we also ask each assistant a fixed set of questions to log whether you're mentioned, in what position and how you're described.
How much does AI search optimization cost?
It depends on the size of your site, how many pages need rewriting, its current technical health, how many locations you have and how competitive your category is. A local business with a small site needs far less work than a company with several locations. Start with the free audit, and on a 30-minute call we'll give you a proposal with scope and a fixed price.
How soon will my business show up in AI answers?
Technical changes (robots.txt, llms.txt, schema) take effect as soon as crawlers revisit your site, usually within a few weeks. First citations typically appear within 6 to 12 weeks, sooner in assistants that search in real time, such as Perplexity. We meet in person with businesses in Torreón and La Laguna, Mexico, and work remotely across Mexico, the United States, Canada and Latin America.
